There is a reason Jordan Spieth, Brooks Koepka, and Tiger Woods are all multiple time major champions even as these players that for the most part do not hit the majority of fairways. All these players have the confidence that they can produce low scores no matter where the golf ball gets hit from off the tee.
These great players know that all they have to do is keep the ball progressing forward towards the hole without penalties and then use limited strokes from inside of one hundred yards, to put more pars on the scorecard. With confidence chipping and putting not only lowers overall scores, but also lowers the stress on ball striking. There is an extreme pressure that is put on a player, when they feel like if they miss a green that automatically equals bogey or worse.
Becoming more confident with your chipping from around the green will create an added comfort during club choices during approach shots as well as more forgiving when there are strategy errors. So rather than using the full swing range during the whole time for preparation before a round, spend that quality time in the short game area. This comfort before a round might be needed more times than using the driver!
