To further improve your game this summer, you first need to become more comfortable with your wedge game. Too often players become too discouraged when missing a green, when this needs to be viewed as a positive shot closer to the green as well as possibility for a recovery. These tools for survival as well as opportunity to lower the amount of putts per round comes from added comfort in ball flight and spin control.
One of the biggest mistakes I see from players that causes the most inconsistency, is the lack of trajectory control. Each chip looks completely different than the previous and there is not any muscle memory gained throughout the course or during practice. To help your flight consistency players need to focus on where the ball is landing vs where it is ending up after it rolls out. Each green is different and how the ball reacts will differ depending on what surface the ball is coming out of, but how far the ball travels in the air is much more controllable.
So help practice become much more visual as well as entertaining my players know that our target while chipping is always to our "blue towel"! This tangible visual helps players understand that we do not have to land chips on a dime to convert up and downs as well as understand that a silly major flop shot are not required every hole.
