Drive for show but putt for dough!

As the professional tour heads to beautiful Bay Hill Club and Lodge for the Arnold Palmer Invitational, early March also kicks off the 2019 golf season for most of the amateur world. As players start to get their weekend foursome back together or begin league play, excitement begins to build as players look ahead at the friendly competition and hopes for their best season to date. Improve your game this season and make this year the season you are the player to beat by following along my golf blog articles!

The first thing needed to lower scores and be more feared by the rest of the group comes with the putter. This is the only club used on every hole and needs to be the most trusted club in the bag this upcoming season. Most players do practice their putting before rounds but unfortunately, it is not done in the best area of the green. For most amateur players three putting is something of a habit, so to quickly lower scores and gain attention from the rest of your group we need to work on eliminating the amount of times the putter is used. The most important part of golf is the scorecard and major improvements could be made not from adding five yards to the driver but rather just two putting greens rather than three. This can easily be achieved from more improved practice habits.

When players have the last five minutes before teeing off, hoping you are not that guy sending drives all over the range, some do attempt to gain a feel for the putting green. Unfortunately most try to gain confidence tapping in three footers to hear the sound of the cup. Just because you have not heard this glorious sound or not seen the practice green, since last month’s round. This time can be better utilized to gain confidence by lag putting. Seeing those ten in a row two footers might feel good when walking up to the number one tee box but not going to be much help when having a fifty foot putt on the first green. Improve your lag putting today by contacting Cole to schedule your putting lesson!
