Summer finally in full swing and with Fathers Day right around the corner, to the golf world that means US Open week! Arguably one of the toughest tests of golf all season, returns to historic Pebble Beach. With some of the best sights in golf, Pebble will provide some of the best senic viewpoints golf has to offer. This makes for some beautiful golf and excitement for all players to play more this summer!
Being able to out drive your buddies is fun but what really gets on their nerves is not getting them by five yards on the last tee shot, but hitting the last five fairways in a row. As the best in the world face the toughest test in golf, amateurs finally get to see the excitement and value of fairways for the big boys on tour. A historic point of difference for the US Open, is the penalizing long rough if struggling with accuracy off the tee. To help you spend less time in the trees and more time closer to the one fifty pole in the middle of fairway, study the following lesson tips.
One of the biggest practice mistakes that I see brought to the course, is not establishing a target. No matter if this is a tree in the distance on the left side of the fairway or the fairway bunker on the right, establishing a target is a necessity. In my on course instructional sessions, I refer to this visualization as trying to hit our desired shot within the middle of a football field goal. Even the best ever like Tiger and Phil, do not hit every fairway attempted. So giving yourself some flexibility while also trying to achieve a specific goal will not only help find more fairways this season but help in building confidence and comfort throughout this season!
